6 Bullets to Hell (2016)

6 Bullets to Hell (2016) poster Billy Rogers (Crispian Belfrage) has settled into a quiet family life with his wife Grace (Magna Rodriquez). In fact, they’re awaiting the arrival of their first child.

Then one day while Billy is off buying supplies in town, the Bobby Durago gang stumbles upon the Rogers homestead as they flee the scene of a killing.

By the time they leave, Grace has been brutally raped by five of the gang members, then murdered by Durango (Tanner Beard) so she can’t testify against the men.

Once he buries Grace, Billy straps on his old six-gun, stepping back into his pre-marital days and vowing vengeance.

His task is complicated by the fact that the gang broke up soon after the bank robbery.

But he’ll also have a helping hand in tracking down the five killers. Sheriff Morris (Russell Quinn Cummings) has decided to assist his old friend.

Review:

The story is straight-forward and only take about 70 minutes of screen time to tell, so don’t expect a complicated Sergio Leone plot.

But this is as accurate an homage to the Spaghetti Western you’re likely to find in the 21st Century, even if it is served up with tongue partly planted in cheek.

Everything’s there: Spain’s scenic vistas, the sudden bursts of violence, the quiet man on a quest for revenge, the wild death throes, the music (some new, some borrowed by Spaghetti master Ennio Morricone). Even the sound of the dialogue will remind you of those dubbed films from the 1960s and 1970s.

And if some of the sets are clear reminders that the film wasn’t made on an expansive budget, it’s still an entertaining ride that doesn’t overstay it’s welcome.

Co-directors Beard and Collins play key roles as actors, too. The rest of Durango’s gang includes “Two Gun Joe” Ross, Bad Boy Cruze, Frank, Dutch and Nino.

The latter is the one moral member of the Durango gang. He pays a heavy price for his morality.

Memorable lines:

Sheriff Morris: “Well, what are you thinking? Will you wear the badge?”
Billy Rogers: “I’ll tell you what I’m thinking. I’m thinking I’m going to find each and every one of these bastards. And send each and every one of them right to hell.”

Billy Rogers: “I didn’t care if I lived or died. Where I was going, heaven wasn’t close. But hell was breathing down my neck.”

Billy Rogers: “There’s only one way this is gonna end: Bloody.”

Billy Rogers: “Okay, Two-Gun Jore, I got two bullets left. How many of them do you want?”

Gang members: “Guess you don’t know who you’re talking to, gringo.”
Billy Rogers: “I’m talking to two dead sons of bitches who are interrupting my meal.”
