Dead Again in Tombstone (2017)

Dead Again in Tombstone (2017) DVD cover Danny Trejo returns as Guerrero in the sequel to 2013’s “Dead in Tombstone,” in which he made a deal with the devil: his life in exchange for all the souls he could send to hell, mostly via his six-guns.

Despite orders from the devil to “pick up the pace” of his soul production, Guerrero decides to detour from Tombstone to Silver River to check on his surviving family members, his tough-as-nails daugther Alicia (Elysia Rotaru) and his even tougher grandmother Zerelda (Michelle Rios).

But trouble comes calling in the form of Col. Jackson Boomer (Jake Busey) and his band of ex-Rebels. The colonel is suffering from some sort of terminal illness and is convinced the devil’s book, buried somewhere in a bone box, will not only save him, but allow him to resurrect his fallen comrades.

He’s also convinced Guerrero knows the book’s location. And if he doesn’t divulge that location .. well, his daughter and grandmother might pay a handsome price, along with all the other residents of Silver River.

Guerrero receives help from Dr. Goldsworthy, who’s not convinced the gunman’s soul is a lost cause.

But Col. Boomer has a literal army at his back and a new ally in Madame Du Vere, who runs the town’s bordello.

Review:

Take the first film, slash the budget, add lots of slow motion action for style points and a touch of nudity and … well, that pretty much sums up the sequel to a film that really didn’t beg for one.

Oh, this isn’t bad if you’re a fan of Westerns chock full of action, a nearly industructable lead character and explosions that come out of nowhere.

But if you prefer a plot that makes you give a damn about who lives and who dies, you’d better look elsewhere.

And, please, don’t think too long about the plot here. Or about why Guerrero comes riding into town on a buffalo at one point. Or how that chest of toys buried under a couple of rocks didn’t wash away long ago. Or about the horse resurrection scene.

Know this: The good folks in Silver River sure weren’t very good about burying things six feet deep.

The only thing that doesn’t bury this film six feet deep: It’s still better than lots of Westerns released these days.

Jeremiah to Guerrero: “Join me for a drink, old buddy? You already killed me once. It’s not like I can be dead again.”
Guerrero fires a bullet into his chest: “Guess you can be dead again.”

Sheriff Judkins, pointing to Guerrero’s wanted poster: “A $1,000 bounty is nothing to sneeze at.”
Guerrero: “It’s nothing to die over either.”

Jack Boomer to Guerrero: “You pull any funny business and we will fill you with so much lead you’ll sink like a stone.”

Madame Du Vere: “And if I find this book?”
Jackson Boomer: “If you find this book, I will take you to hell and back.”
Madame Du Vere: “Sounds wonderful.”

Dr. Goldsworthy, showing Guerrero “The Devil’s Book”: “Now, if Jackson Boomer were to possess this tome …”
Guerrero: “Yeah, yeah, yeah. We get it. Some bad shit would happen.”

Guerrero: “That’s damn right. You got anything that goes bang?”
Goldworthy: “No.”
Guerrero, offering him a gun: “Here, you might need this.”

Guerrero: “Jackson, you got a mean streak in you.”
Jackson: “Runs right down the center of my back.”
