Gunslinger’s Revenge (1998)

Gunslinger's Revenge (1998) DVD coverLeonardo Pieraccioni is Doc Lowen, a peaceful man living a quiet life in the town of Basin Field with his Indian wife Pearl and their half-breed son Jeremiah. Oh, Jeremiah sneaks peeks at saloon owner Mary when she’s showering and isn’t fond of school, and Doc has to talk angry men down from an occasional gunfight, but that’s the extent of their problems.

At least it is until Doc’s dad, Johnny Lowen (Harvey Keitel) returns home, 20 years after abandoning his family. He’s been on the run part of the time, building a reputation as one of the fastest, most dangerous men in the West. While others idolize him, Doc fears the impact his presence might have on his impressionable young son

Then, just as Johnny’s about to leave, an old nemesis shows up — psychopathic killer Jack Sikora (David Bowie) and his gang, including one gunman who barks, one who meows and a dressed-all-in-black-leather gal who takes photos of Jack’s exploits.

The next exploit he’s planning: a showdown with Johnny Lowen. And he’ll stop at virtually nothing to force Johnny into that gunfight.

Rating 3 out of 6Review:

And odd little film that was made in Italy and is full of bizarre characters – one named Joshua sits on rooftops and crows like a rooster — but that’s about the extent of the Spaghetti flair.

In fact, the first half of the film is rather slow-paced as Jeremiah tells the story of his childhood flashback style. Next, the focus shifts to Doc’s reaction to the return of his long-lost father.

Then David Bowie shows up as the villain of the piece and the real action starts. The film would have been better if he and his gang had shown up earlier.

Memorable lines:

Johnny Lowen to Mary: “Today, I put my pistol in the ground. I felt like I buried my whole life.”

Jack Sikora: “Whoa, Mary.” He holds a gun to her head. “Who died and made you stud dick all of a sudden, bitch? You’re a lucky woman. Today, I’m not going to kill you. I’m just going to rape you.”
