Outlaw Stallion (1954) The

Billy Gray plays Danny Saunders, who dreams of catching, taming and riding the wild stallion. His mother Mary wants him to have nothing to do with the horse; she already lost his father to a mustang-taming accident. Philip Carey plays a veterinarian and family friend who’d like to be more to Mary, but finds himself siding with Danny over the stallion.

Into this mix rides Hagen and his men, determined to capture the wild horses on the nearby range, even though they’re on protected property. And, if anyone gets in his way, well, he’s not about kidnapping or even killing to stay out of the hands of the law.

Oh, and Hagen wants that white stallion, too.

Rating 1 out of 6Review:

Pretty much a best-avoided mess. At one point, Hagen sends a black stallion, “Amigo,” to steal all the mares from the white stallion. They engage in a horse fight, which turns out to be the most interesting thing in the movie.

The white stallion kills one of Hagen’s men by strangling him with a rope. And, at a movie’s climax, Mary sets free the white stallion she’s been so petrified of the entire film. The ending is a head-shaker, too.

The same year this film was released, child actor Billy Gray began playing the role of Bud, son of Robert Young and Jane Wyatt in the long-running TV series “Father Knows Best.”
