Revenge of the Virgins (1959)

Revenge of the Virgins (1959) posterMelvin Potter (Charles Veltman Jr.) has married a money-hungry woman named Ruby (Jodean Lawrence), who dreams of being queen of her own barroom and making a ton of dough.

She sends her husband to buy a bar. Finding he doesn’t have enough money for that, Melvin is intrigued when he hears an old prospector known as “Pan” talking about a creek rich in gold.

Problem is, Gold Creek is in the middle of Indian territory, and he doesn’t have the courage to return alone. He barely escaped with his life — and didn’t get to take out any of his gold — the first time.

Well, Melvin convinces him to return after hiring on two gunhands. And so the Potters, “Pan” and the gunmen set out to find their fortune. And they’re soon joined by two Army deserters.

But just as quickly, the party starts to be whittled down, man by man. They’ve entered the territory of the Golden Horde, a primitive all-female band of warriors determined to kill any white man who dares come near.

Review:

This is a nudie Western from the late 1950s, though there’s nothing at all erotic about it. And it’s only for the very curious. Or those very bored.

The Golden Horde roams the hills bare-breasted, carrying bows and arrows, occassionally stopping to do a weird dance of the virgins around their leader, Yellow Gold, a white captive worshipped because of her golden hair.

But have no doubt, this is all-Western, not a sex film. In fact, the trip to Golden Creek is filled with all the Western cliches you’d expect when five greedy individuals head off in search of a fortune.

They begin plotting against each other before they’ve found so much as a nugget. They should have spent more time worrying about those vicious Indians.

The poster for the film is a hoot, featuring the bare-breasted warriors of course, though not one has a single line of dialogue. Across their bare breasts are words like “ruthless” and “deadly.”

Henry Darrow is the king of this no-name cast. He went on to a long career on TV, including a role on The High Chaparral.

Connor: “Who’s side are you on, Mrs. Potter?”
