Bannock (2014)

Bannock (2014) posterA rancher and his wife are brutally murdered near the town of Cold Water.

The only witness, Etta Taylor (Christina Hindriksen), swears they were butchered by none other than Malachai Logan.

To those who believe he exists, Logan is a feared killer in these here parts. Others think he’s the figment of wild imagination.

Ellie Walker, sister of the slain woman, summons long-exiled brother Wade Bannock (Erik Leblanc) to hunt down Logan or whomever was responsible.

So Bannock sets out on the killer’s trail, accompanied by Etta, a companion he doesn’t want, and a young man named Billy Caulder (Adam Newberry), who would like to test his gun skills against the legendary Bannock.

Billy is accompanied by grizzled partner Clevis Wolf. And along the way, the small party picks up two other members, former lawman Teach Conley and Jim Tanna, who’s own sister and father have been butchered.

And it soon becomes clear that whomever Bannock and his companions are chasing is a psychotic killer who prefers to cut up his victims and has a special penchant for separating heads from bodies.

Rating 2 out of 6Review:

An ambitious independent Western that runs over two hours in length. Unfortunately, there’s more riding around and talking than action.

Not to mention a mostly geriatric cast, including Bannock, the supposed hero of the piece.

Adam Newberry turns in the best performance as the young gun. As for the killer, we don’t get to meet him until the film’s climax.
