Eye for an Eye (2022)

Shane Clouse plays lawman Quint Reagan, who returns home one day to a heart-breaking scene: his pregnant wife has been raped and murdered.

So he takes off his badge, places it on her grave and vows to track down and kill those responsible.

He suspects and soon confirms that those responsible ride for neighboring rancher Brad Braddock, a cattle king who thinks he controls everything in these here parts and would like nothing better than to get his hands on Reagan’s ranch.

Indeed, Braddock sent his men to scare Reagan’s pregnant wife Consuela. He never intended for them to rape and murder.

But now that they have, he needs to cover his tracks. He needs Quint Reagan killed. And he’s doubly determined to see that happen when Reagan kills one of his prized bulls. Braddock takes that as a sure sign that Reagan knows who’s responsible for his wife’s death.

The two men will soon have another reason to be foes, pretty widow Lola McLoughlin, the penniless mother to a teenage son. She’s living at one of Braddock’s line camps, making a living feeding his men.

Braddock would prefer she live in “the big house” as his much younger wife. But Lola finds herself drawn to passer-by Quint Reagan, even if she isn’t fond of his thirst for revenge.

Review:

A low-budget revenge Western in which the costumes are freshly washed, the sets are too modern for the time period and the acting isn’t good enough to overcome the many problems.

As the top-billed cast member, film veteran John Savage gets to do little except act like a crotchety old man, barking orders and griping about the stupidity of his hired hands.

Vengeance-seeking Shane Clouse has the better role, but takes along a pet dog and a pack mule on his quest. Why? After all, Braddock’s Triple R ranch is next to his own. Perhaps so he can be more easily tracked by Braddock’s men, because that’s what happens.

In one of the film’s sillier scenes, Reagan visits one of Braddock’s line camps, immediately recognizes a killer he’s never scene before, knocks him out, plants him upside down in a privy hole and leaves him there to drown.

The best thing about the film might be the Clouse’s theme song. But then the filmmakers go and ruin even that by playing the soundtrack annoyingly loud throughout the film, even when characters are speaking.
