Five Dollars for Ringo (1966)

Five Dollars for Ringo (1966) posterJulio Perez Tabernero (as Anthony P. Taber) is Sheriff Lester Sands, bound for the town of Lindsborg because he believes that’s the headquarters for a band of outlaws.

En route, he comes across an attempted stagecoach robbery, kills most of the outlaws and rescues a pretty saloon singer named Sara (Vicky Lagos).

Once in town, he realizes he has plenty of work to do.

Deputy Charlie Scott drinks on the job and is in the pocket of the mayor. He cares little that the men hanging out in the saloon have wanted posters sitting on his desk.

And putting people in the Lindsborg jail proves much easier than keeping them there.

Sands gets an unexpected source of help when tomboyish Miram Grady (Maria Pia Conte) shows up with some cowhands in tow.

Figuring they’re in town to make trouble, Sands throws them in jail too. Until Miriam guns down a man intent on shooting the sheriff in the back during a supposedly fair gunfight.

At that point, Sands decides the men in his jail might be more useful wearing badges of their own.

But his new affection for Miriam is about to cause problems. Saloon girl Sara is so jealous, she agrees to help lead the lawman into an ambush.

And Sands still doesn’t know who’s behind all the trouble in Lindsborg.

Review:

A fairly fun romp of a Spaghetti that doesn’t take itself too seriously and finds time for a few musical interludes. Even a bad guy belts out the title tune at one point.

An undertaker named Simon and his helper Kenny are on hand to provide comic relief. They can’t wait to go through the pockets of deceased outlaws to see what they can find.

And between breakouts and the assassination of witnesses, the jail proves to be one of the most dangerous places in town. Heck, it’s nearly destroyed in one fistfight.

Miguel Gila — he’s simply credited as “Gila” here — was a well-known Spanish comedian, He more often played himself on Spanish TV than characters in films like this one.
