Gallowwalkers (2012)

Wesley Snipes plays Aman, a man who set out on the vengeance trail after his lover was raped by a gang of outlaws.

He breaks into a prison where they are being held and kills four of the men, plus the leader’s whore. The fifth outlaw has hanged himself before Aman arrives.

But in his escape, Aman suffers a mortal wound. At that point, his mother intervenes. She’ll offer her soul in return for his life.

The offer is accepted with one condition. All the people Aman has killed will be allowed to rise from the dead as well.

So now Aman must kill the gang all over again. And their legion has grown under the command of Kansa (Kevin Howarth) and a knife-wielding whore Kisscut.

Kansa also has an obsession. He can’t understand why he and his men came back to life, but his son did not. He’s determined to bring him back to life as well.

Killing Kansa and his new gang of dozens isn’t a job for one man, so Aman frees a young gunman named Faulos to help out.

And there’s a pretty dark-haired dancer/whore named Angel in need of rescuing.

If someone doesn’t, she might become the new layer of fresh human skin for Kansa’s dead son.

Review:

Short on substance. But lots of style. Lots of action. Lots of scenes you’re not going to find in your run-of-the-mill TV Western. Of course, this is as much a horror film as a Western.

Howarth is suitably nasty as the prime villain of the piece. Tanit Phoenix looks lovely, with her cleavage vying for attention with her face. The scenes in the religious village/prison camp of Enoch’s Hammer are particularly memorable.

And, clearly, the folks who made this movie were fans of Sergio Leone’s “Once Upon a Time in the West.” Check out the comment about the number of horses in the opening, the squeaking windmill a couple of minutes later and the gun missing the holster during the final showdown.

There’s also a segment in the final showdown that will remind you of “Fistful of Dollars.”
