30 Seconds in Hell (2021)

30 Seconds in Hell (2021) posterEveryone wants to know what happened in the gunfight at the O.K. Corral.

And what led up to it. And who was to blame.

So Destiny (Habib Madison) has her assistant Sorem (William Manns) summon the participants to Destiny’s Saloon so she can ask all those questions.

Some are summoned from beyond the grave. All are puzzled about why they’re heading to Destiny’s Saloon.

But all proceed to tell their version of the events that led up to the most famous gunfight in the history of the wild West.

That includes Wyatt Earp, brother Virgil and friend Doc Holliday.

It also includes Ike and Billy Clanton and their friend Johnny Ringo.

And it includes former Tombstone sheriff John Behan, who insists the gunfight never should have happened.

Rating 2 out of 6Review:

Interesting concept that might have worked, if there was any fresh information to present.

But any fan of Westerns who sits down to watch this likely already knows the story of the gunfight — after all, it’s been documented in movies many times.

So what we’re left with is an aging saloon girl named Destiny interviewing the participants.

That’s it. No action until a lame recreation of the battle itself.

The most interesting performance comes from Elese Jones as Mattie Earp, on the verge of a nervous breakdown because of her addictions and her deteriorating relationship with Wyatt.

Bottom line: If you feel the urge to watch something about the gunfight, watch “Tombstone” (1993) again. Guaranteed you’ll enjoy it more.

This film joins “Tombstone Rashomon” (2017) as a gimmicky look back that we really didn’t need.

Memorable lines:

Sorem, slamming a grave marker into the ground: “Stay there, this time.”

Sorem: “Destiny awaits you down in the saloon.”
Old man Clanton: “Destiny? I’ve had enough destiny to last me two lifetimes.”
Sorem: “I don’t think you understand. This is a different type of destiny.”

Marshal Virgil Earp, surprised by Destiny’s approach as he enters the saloon: “Ma’am, you scared me half to death, you did.”
Destiny: “Well, then, you’re halfway back to where you come from.”
Earp: “What’s that mean?”

Doc Holliday, waking in a strange place: “This is sure a fine mess I’ve gotten myself into. I can’t for sure say this is hell. But I can for sure say it ain’t heaven.”

Mattie, being comforted by Destiny: “Sorry? Sorry ain’t nothin’ but a word you say after you cast someone to hell.”

Virgil Earp: “The cool head is the one without a hole in it at the end of a fight.”
