First Seal Revelations (2025) - Once Upon a Time in a Western

Director River Roubaix is Colt, a rancher riding the vengeance trail after his wife and daughter are killed.

He stumbles across a wagon with a woman and child aboard and quickly realizes something is amiss.

The two men fixing the wheel of the wagon say they’re preachers. They’re not. They’re bandits who intend to steal the horses and the wagon and leave the females behind.

Colt ends those plans by gunning down the two men, then learns that the true preacher died two weeks earlier.

The woman, Annie (Joni Adahl), is the preacher’s widow and still hopes to reach Salt Lake City with her 7-year-old daughter Charise (Amylea Meiklejohn).

Colt tries to convince her to turn around. The quickest trail to Salt Lake City runs straight through Apache territory.

She refuses, leaving him torn. Should he continue his quest for vengeance? Or should he accompany the woman and her daughter instead?

Charise is hoping for the latter. She’s convinced Colt is an angel.

After all, he isn’t breathing when she tries to wake him in the morning. And he keeps seeing a white horse.

Review:

Based on a book by the director, this is an interesting adventure in filmmaking,

Annie is convinced God sent Colt to her as a guardian angel following her husband’s death.

But Colt proclaims “that God has not done right by me” and that “hell follows me wherever I go.”

Is he an agent for God? Or for the devil?

Here’s what he surely isn’t: The lead in a traditional Western. So if an action-packed Western is what you’re in the mood for, look elsewhere.

That wagon that broke down — it doesn’t move until the final scene in the movie. Nearly the entire film focuses on Annie, her daughter and Colt, sitting in one spot, pondering what the future holds.
