Go West Young Girl (1978)

Go West, Young Girl (1978) promoKaren Valentine is Netty Booth, a tenderfoot reporter out West always looking for the next good story.

Sandra Will is Gilda Corin, a far more frontier savvy lass searching for a long lost brother, none other than Billy the Kid.

When the women hear a rumor that Billy might be in Yuma Prison, they head in that direction.

Next thing you know it, they’re mixed up in a saloon shootout and a prison break.

They’re kidnapped by Indians, and they hijack a stagecoach.

It’s all because the “Billy” in Yuma prison and the crooked Rev. Crane are mixed up in a gun-running scheme with the Indians.

Rating 2 out of 6Review:

Sandra Will is easier on the eyes and far easier on the ears in this comedy Western than the better known Karen Valentine.

In fact, the latter is quite annoying star of this rather silly TV movie that plays like the pilot for a TV show that never took off.

Veteran Western actor Stuart Whitman has a small part as the deputy who runs the dangerous women out of town.

And, spoiler alert, the Billy in Yuma prison isn’t Billy the Kid, which would have set the ladies up for more adventures in their search for the real Billy had this become TV series.

Oh, and you might recognize the voice on the title tune. It’s John Stewart, former member of the Kingston Trio, who would hit the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 a year laterr with “Gold,” featuring Stevie Nicks.

As for Will, she has just 10 credits on IMDb, but was twice married, once to former NFL player and broadcaster Pat Studstill and once to actor Keith Carradine.

Memorable lines:

Deputy Shreeve: “Did you ever get shot?”
Gilda Corin: “No.”
Deputy: “Well, I can’t say I recommend it.”

Gilda Corin, as Netty thinks she’s renting a room: “Look, Tenderfoot, this particular establishment pays you. get it?”

Netty: “She thinks I’m a ….?”
Gilda: “She does.”
Netty: “Oh, I never.”
